MAP Study Area The MAP Study Area is the southern portion of the Palouse bioregion of
Latah County (shown in yellow) (Bailey 1995). The region is home to
seven species of amphibians, and includes approximately 750 artificial
ponds and extensive wetlands that provide amphibian breeding habitat.
About the Study Sites The 37 initial MAP sites are the artificial ponds surveyed by University
of Idaho Wildlife Resources graduate student Ryan Monello. He conducted
a detailed study of Ponds 1-30in 1996 and 1997, and added ponds 31-37
in 1997. Ryan documented amphibian presence and reproduction in each
pond. Four of his study sites had been monitored in 1976 and 1977,
providing excellent baseline data for our current monitoring project.
