National Wetlands Inventory One of the goals of MAP is to determine whether amphibians are present
in the habitats where they are predicted to occur. Suitable amphibian
habitat has been identified by the National Wetlands Inventory (NWI).
The NWI project was established to generate information about the
characteristics, extent, and status of the nation’s wetlands and
deepwater habitat. The NWI data for the MAP Study Area was compiled
from visual surveys of aerial photos taken in 1981. The sites were
ground-truthed in 1999. NWI areas are shown on the map of Latah
County, below, in green.
If you own or have access to a pond or wetland identified in the
National Wetlands Inventory survey, your monitoring efforts there will
be especially valuable. NWI maps of wetlands in Latah County, Idaho,
are based on data collected as early as 1955; therefore, recently
established ponds and wetlands may not appear on the map.
The data you submit for NWI sites will contribute to ground-truthing of
predictions of species presence by the GAP Analysis Project.
