MAP Partners
Moscow High School Biology Classes
Three of the MAP sites are located at the Phillips Farm, the Moscow
High School Outdoor Classroom. Biology students take regular field
trips to the Phillips Farm as part of their Ecology curriculum. The
Phillips Farm is a pilot Idaho Partners in Amphibian and Reptile
Conservation "Sentinel Site," a site at which detailed amphibian
monitoring studies are conducted annually.
Moscow High School Environmental Club
The Environmental Club projects are designed to complement the Biology
curriculum by encouraging habitat improvement projects at the Phillips
Farm Outdoor Classroom. Specific projects at the Phillips Farm include
constructing soil erosion control check dams, monitoring bird nest
boxes, and maintaining nature trails. Other local projects of the
Environmental Club include classroom recycling and participating in the
Adopt-A-Stream program. In the spirit of thinking AND acting globally,
Environmental Club members travel to a remote Mexican beach each fall
to assist University of Guadalajara biologists in a sea turtle
conservation project.
Partners in Amphibian
and Reptile Conservation (PARC) is a nationwide organization whose
purpose is to conserve amphibians, reptiles and their habitats as
integral parts of our ecosystem and culture through proactive and
coordinated public/private partnerships.
Palouse-Clearwater Environmental
Institute (PCEI) is a local non-profit 501(c)3 conservation
organization that addresses issues related to water quality,
transportation, environmental education, and community food systems.
Several of the MAP sites are PCEI wetlands and stream-side restoration
sites. The PCEI Environmental Education Program is currently working to
recruit university and high school student interns as well as community
volunteers to monitor restoration sites. Contact Greg Fizzell for more
information.
