Steve Hollenhorst - Executive Director B.S. Recreation and Park Management, University of Oregon;

Steve is the Department Head and Professor for the Department of Conservation
Social Sciences in the College of Natural Resources at the
University of Idaho. Aside from his personal interest in mountain
climbing and telemark skiing, Steve's research interests include
environmental policy; parks wilderness and protected area management;
community-based environmental education, and international protected

Greg Fizzell - Program Director B.S. Forestry, University of Illinois;
M.S. Forest Resources, University of Idaho.
Greg began his career in the environment over a decade ago by working
as a field forester and biologist in Illinois, Oregon, and Washington.
Aside from trees, he studied neotropical migrant birds in the forests
and on the prairie of Illinois and tracked Northern Goshawks in the
pine forests of central Oregon. In 2001, Greg co-founded the
University of Idaho McCall Outdoor Science
School (MOSS) along with Dr. Steve Hollenhorst. Greg now manages
environmental education
programs for the Palouse-Clearwater Environmental Institute in
Moscow, ID and is Program Director for MOSS. Email Greg

Sacha Jackson - Program Registrar B.S. Experiential Sports Psychology, Minors in Coaching and Health,

Sacha is a native of Maine and has lived in McCall since 2002. The
first 3.5 years of her McCall life were spent as a behavior therapist
working with children with autism. When the program ended, her sense
of adventure took her to Italy to study cooking. Upon return in the
fall of 2006, Sacha joined the MOSS team as the desert chef. She
rejoined the team in the spring of 2007 with a keyboard at her fingers
instead of flour and frosting. Sacha enjoys volunteering for AWeSOMe
(Adaptive Wilderness Sports of McCall), cooking, traveling,
backpacking, dancing, climbing, singing Phantom of the Opera songs,

Karla Bradley - Director of Education B.A. Studio Art and American Studies, Williams College;
Prof. Residency in Environmental Education, Teton Science School;
M.S. Conservation Social Science, University of Idaho;
Ph.D. Conservation Social Science, University of Idaho.
Karla teaches CSS565 - Instructional
Methods for Environmental Educators. She is a Doctoral student in
Conservation Social Science in the College of Natural Resources at the
University of Idaho. She has been working with the MOSS program since
2002. Karla has worked as a crew leader for the Student Conservation
Association, a field instructor at Teton Science School in Grand Teton
National Park, Wyoming, and led conservation service projects with the
OutDoor School Alternative High School, part of Northwest Youth Corps.

Gary Thompson - Director of Operations and Leadership B.A. Wilderness Leadership and Experiential Education, Brevard College;
M.S. Conservation Social Science, University of Idaho
Gary teaches CSS562 - Outdoor
Leadership for Environmental Educators. Since 1999, Gary has been
working as a wilderness educator, expedition leader and a university
instructor. He has enjoyed working in both the United States and South
America. His professional interests include risk management and
leadership education. When not in school Gary instructs for the
National Outdoor Leadership School and tries to spend as much time on
the river as possible. He enjoys whitewater kayaking, telemark skiing,
cooking on the grill and throwing sticks for the dog. Email Gary |
Lynne Westerfield - Community Development Coordinator B.A. Geology, Colorado College
M.S. Conservation Social Sciences, University of Idaho
Lynne moved to McCall in 2005 after completing a M.S. at the University
of Idaho. Her masters research focused on sense of place and
stewardship in Idaho communities through both qualitative and
quantitative approaches. Lynne has B.A. in Geology from Colorado
College and a background in outdoor and experiential education. For the
past 10 years she had worked as a river guide and outdoor educator all
over the world, most recently for the National Outdoor Leadership
School. Lynne loves boating, biking, skiing, reading, writing and
hanging out with the dog on the porch. Email Lynne

Adrienne Boland - Program Coordinator B.S. Conservation Social Science, University of Idaho
Adrienne is a Moscow native that started out as an art major and turned
to science. After a tour of many colleges in the west she came back to
Moscow to finish her degree. She came to McCall to participate in the
Graduate Residency in Environmental Education program at MOSS. She has
completed two AmeriCorps positions through Friends of the Clearwater and
PCEI, both of Moscow, Idaho. The last two summers have been spent
monitoring Coeur d’Alene Salamanders in the Clearwater National Forest.
She has a passion for learning and research and passes this along to
all that she meets. Adrienne enjoys hiking, biking, rock climbing,
mountaineering, snowboarding, skiing, knitting and art. One day she
would like to guide women’s adventures. She hopes to continue her
schooling and study salamanders or alpine ecology. Email Adrienne
