    Field Seminars

Check out our Field Seminars! The McCall Outdoor Science School wants to take you and your family on an adventure!

MOSS Field Seminars are taught by University of Idaho faculty and local specialists here at the University of Idaho McCall Field Campus. Multi-day Field Seminars allow for plenty of field time while taking an in depth looks at topics surrounding the Idaho backcountry experience, including avalanches and first aid. Half-day Field Seminars combine a brief 'chalk talk' at the UI McCall Field Campus with field time, dinner and drinks at our cozy dinning lodge. Come join in the fun and bring your family too.

    Our Community Energy Partnership
Takes on Energy Bills and Carbon
    Emissions in Valley County

The McCall Outdoor Science School is teaming up with Idaho Power and local partners to lower energy bills and reduce energy consumption accross Valley County.

This project began when, with the help of Idaho Power and University of Idaho Extension, 15 MOSS Field Instructors were trained as energy ambassadors for Valley County. Field Instructors went on to deliver 15 free energy audits to Valley County homes, making a final implementation visit to homes on ‘Make a Difference Day' on October 27th, 2007. More than 30 people gathered at the McCall Outdoor Science School to perform weatherization and energy efficiency projects for selected homes.

Led by MOSS Field Instructors, teams gave out free compact fluorescent light bulbs, installed weather stripping, caulked windows and doors, added water heater covers, changed furnace filters, added insulation, identified areas of energy loss and suggested further improvements. The Walter & Leona Dufresne Fund in the Idaho Community Foundation and local businesses, donated over $2,500 in energy resources and food for our volunteers.

    A Few Simple Tips...
How do you decrease your energy bill and help the environment at the same time?
    Follow these simple steps:

  • Turn your water heater down to 120∘F.
  • Turn off the lights and unplug all electronics when not in use.
  • Close curtains or blinds at night.
  • Do not block the register. Move furniture away from baseboard heat.
  • Fill all the gaps. Weather strip doors and caulk windows.
