Course Goals:
- MOSS Field Instructors will learn a foundation in Outdoor
Leadership that will complement their abilities as educators and
instructors
- MOSS Field Instructors will develop the tools both to lead and
follow as members of a learning community
- MOSS Field Instructors will cultivate leadership skills that can
serve them beyond their MOSS experience.
Instructional Style:
This course will address concepts of Outdoor Leadership for instructors
involved in experiential environmental education with students 9 – 13
years old. The course will focus on how to use the concepts of Outdoor
Leadership to benefit the field instruction of environmental education
and to benefit and accomplish the goals of a learning community. A
focus on the Field Instructor experience at MOSS will form the core of
the leadership course. Field activities, facilitation practice, faculty
modeling of leadership techniques, journaling readings, written
assignments, and field trips will be used to support instructor
learning.
