Teaching Practicum in Environmental Education Instructors:
Karla Bradley
Gary Thompson
More about the faculty
Course Goals:
- To give GREE students experience teaching residential outdoor
science education to a diversity of elementary aged students
- To facilitate the growth of GREE students as reflective
practitioners through journaling, peer coaching and faculty
mentoring
How it works:
We recognize that each student in the GREE program will come to us with
a unique background and invidiual learning needs and desires. Through
the teaching practicum, we can focus on the skills and areas most
relevant to each individual learner.
Every other week you will teach a small group of students in our
residential programs, for a total of approximately five weeks while at
MOSS. During your teaching weeks you will be observed by a peer and/or
faculty member. The observation is followed by a debrief, a reflective
conversation that will provide an opportunity for you and your observer
to focus on specific elements of your practice that you would like to
work on.
You will also complete weekly journal entries. These generally provide
a space for individual reflection on your teaching or academic weeks.
Through your journaling, the faculty are able to respond to your
individual questions and needs, and thereby design a program that meets
your goals.
