What is AmeriCorps? AmeriCorps is a National Service movement with its roots in the Peace
Corps and the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). AmeriCorps provides
thousands of Americans of all ages and backgrounds with an opportunity
to complete a term of service. Nationwide there are over 900 AmeriCorps
programs providing part-time and full-time service to communities in the
areas of health and human needs, public safety, homeland security,
education and the environment.
When you choose to participate in the Palouse-Clearwater Environmental
Institute's AmeriCorps Placement Program, you become part of a
nationwide family of AmeriCorps members and community volunteers. You
take on new challenges, develop field and leadership skills, network
with environmental pros, and make friendships that will last a
lifetime.
The AmeriCorps placement program at PCEI has several options for both
interested members and sponsors.
Field Teams
Field teams serve with the Northwest Youth Corps (NYC) in
their Leadership
Development Program. Groups of approximately 10 members serve
together for their entire term of service in the back country of
Arizona, Idaho and/or Washington State. The Leadership Development
Program (LDP) integrates team-based work projects, education, and
on-site technical training into a curriculum that emphasizes leadership
growth, and the development of conservation work skills.
Field team positions are part time, 900 hour AmeriCorps positions.
Participants earn a monthly AmeriCorps stipend and, upon completion of
a successful term of service, an Americorps education award.
Successful graduates of the LDP will be eligible for summer or fall
field staff positions with NYC.
LDP 3 begins on April 10, 2008. LDP 4 begins May 29, 2008.

Individual Placements
Individual members who are placed with a sponsoring agency either
independently or in small groups full-time for their entire term of
service. Sponsoring agencies develop the project, assist with applicant
recruitment and provide daily guidance and supervision of their
member(s). PCEI partners with leading environmental government
agencies and non-profits throughout the state and eastern
Washington.
Our office partners with approximately 25 agencies including various
Idaho Fish and Game Departments (in Boise, Jerome, Idaho Falls),
Palouse Conservation District in Pullman, Washington, the Environmental
Resource Center in Ketchum, Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge in Nampa,
Idaho, and Palouse Clearwater Environmental Institute in Moscow, Idaho,
to name a few.
Members are responsible for their own housing and often choose to live
near the community where their project is located.
Outdoor opportunities are plentiful. Idaho has world-class rivers and
wilderness areas. Outdoor adventures such as hiking, backpacking,
cross country skiing and kayaking are waiting to be experienced.

Idaho Environmental Education Corps
One of the most innovative AmeriCorps programs in the state, Idaho
Environmental Education Corps (IEEC) positions immerse members in an
amazing 12 month experience.
During the first nine months (August 13 - May 30), members teach and
learn at Idaho's only residential science school, the McCall Outdoor
Science School (MOSS). MOSS is a 3-5 day residential education program
that hosts 5th - 6th grade students from across Idaho at the University
of Idaho McCall Field Campus. Members will participate in graduate
level training programs in community ecology, teaching methods, and
outdoor leadership and lead teams of 6-8 students through the forests
and along the streams of the Salmon River Mountains.
Winter and spring will continue in McCall with both Winter Residential
and Spring Outreach Programs. Outreach Programs take MOSS on the road
by visiting schools across the state of Idaho. Members will implement a
catalog of environmental education programs both in classroom and field
settings. Training will continue with additional short courses,
conferences, and workshops.
Each AmeriCorps member will spend the summer (June 1 - August 31) at
various placement sites including public natural resource agencies and
non-profit organizations who are looking for skilled educators,
interpreters, and natural resource technicians. During this segment,
you will apply the skills and knowledge gained during the intense
training and hands-on application of the prior segment to help
environmental organizations statewide fullfill their missions while
gaining more meaningful experience.

Education Award Program
In our Education Award Program (EAP), members typically serve part-time
with the partnering organization (25-75 hours per month), though some
projects require that the member serve on a more full-time basis for
two months to a year. EAP members can serve in 300, 450, 675, or 900
hour positions.
This is a great way to be rewarded for service in your community.
