The Palouse-Clearwater Environmental Institute (PCEI) is celebrating 25
years in 2011. Located in Moscow, Idaho, PCEI works on projects in
watershed restoration, education, sustainable living and service
learning. Through community organizing and education, PCEI assists
members of our communities in making environmentally sound and
economically viable decisions that promote a sustainable future. PCEI
is committed to promoting the ecological health and social welfare of
the Palouse-Clearwater region as well as actively participating in the
conservation, preservation, and restoration of environmentally
sensitive lands, natural areas, and unique ecosystems.
About our AmeriCorps Placement Centers:
The Palouse-Clearwater Environmental Institute also has an AmeriCorps
program that currently serves communities in the Moscow and Lewiston
areas as will as the greater Portland region through the confluence
Environmental Center. Through 30 partnerships with schools,
community-based organizations and government agencies, PCEI addresses
critical environmental and equity issues in the areas of healthy
watersheds, energy and resource conservation, environmental education
and outreach, as well as sustainable community development.
The Confluence Environmental Center (CEC) is a program of the
Palouse-Clearwater Environmental Institute (PCEI). The CEC is a new
initiative in Portland, OR with a focus on building environmental
leadership and catalyzing a healthy and equitable environment for the
region.
National and Community Service programs (www.nationalservice.gov) meet
critical needs in areas such as education, public safety, health and
the environment through partnerships with public agencies, non-profits,
faith-based and other local organizations.
About our AmeriCorps Program:
The Confluence Environmental Center was recently awarded a three-year
AmeriCorps grant (Fall 2011-2014) through Oregon Volunteers. The grant
will deploy and engage twenty AmeriCorps members in three areas: Energy
and Resource Conservation, Healthy Watersheds, and Environmental/Garden
Based Education, with a focus on engaging low-income and ethnically
diverse communities.
What is AmeriCorps?
Launched in 1994, AmeriCorps programs provide opportunities for
Americans to make an intensive commitment to service. The AmeriCorps
network of local, state, and national service programs engages more
than 70,000 Americans in intensive service each year.
AmeriCorps members serve through more than 3,000 nonprofits, government
agencies, and schools, helping meet critical needs in education, public
safety, health and the environment. Members may tutor and mentor youth,
build affordable housing, teach computer skills, restore parks and
streams, lead after-school programs, or help communities respond to
disasters.

When you choose to participate in one of our AmeriCorps Placement
Programs, you become part of a nationwide family of AmeriCorps members,
community volunteers, and agencies that are called to action.
Member Benefits:
$12,100 annual stipend (before taxes)
Health Insurance, Child Care and Food Stamps (if qualified)
300 hours of Member Development (i.e. workshops, trainings,
volunteering, conferences)
Experience in the field, networking, ample opportunities for
professional development
$5,550 Education Award (to use towards repaying a qualified loan or
continuing education)
