Opportunities are available for the 09-10 year!!!
Submit your project for an EAP AmeriCorps member now!

Keep your volunteers coming back by adding an incentive! ...you're the volunteer! Reward yourself with funds for school or student loans!

Thanks to an AmeriCorps grant through Serve Idaho, the Governor’s Commission on Service, we are able to enroll committed volunteers into the AmeriCorps-PCEI Education Award Program (EAP). These AmeriCorps members will earn funds for future tuition or student loans by working on project(s) at a non-profit, government agency or school. Individuals that serve their community by tackling environmental and/or education needs can earn up to $2,362.50. What a great way to promote volunteerism!

Education award amounts are based on the hour commitment selected for the project/agency. Service commitments can be seasonal or for the length of a year based on the needs of the agency and the availability of the individual.

300 hrs total volunteer time=6.25 hrs/wk (*over 48 wks)= $1,000 award

450 hrs total volunteer time= 9.4 hrs/wk (*over 48 wks)= $1,250 award

675 hrs total volunteer time=14 hrs/wk (*over 48 wks)= $1,800 award

900 hrs total volunteer time=18.75 hrs/wk (*over 48 wks)= $2,362.50 award

(*The average number of hours for a year long commitment is figured using 48 weeks since there are some weeks that most people don't work due to vacation, holidays, illness, etc.)

Apply today to be an EAP Sponsor!
If your agency has never been involved in AmeriCorps, this is a great low-cost program to get started.

A previous Education Award Sponsor described her experience like this: "I loved having Sam, and she really was helpful in starting our webpage re-vamping process. Having these young energetic people around is energizing and fun and it felt good to be able to help a young person develop a path towards a career. It’s a win-win situation and I am glad the City can participate in this. "

What is the benefit to our agency to get involved?
Agencies are constantly competing for good volunteers; adding this incentive to your volunteer recruitment can give you that extra edge in bringing them your way. In addition, agencies that have utilized the Education Award Program with their volunteers have experienced:
- dramatic increase in retention
- stronger work performance from volunteers
- less time spent performing trainings
- ability to delegate former staff responsibilities to AmeriCorps members
- greater long term commitment to an agency
- greater volunteer satisfaction

How does our agency get involved?
To become an enrolled organization, an application needs to be completed. If you are applying to host multiple AmeriCorps positions, include position descriptions for each position that will be offered. If you are already a sponsor through our Individual Placement Program or Mobile Environmental Education Corps, you can use narratives submitted with previous applications and new position descriptions for the EAP project(s).

Application deadlines are as follows:

*Sponsors are encouraged to apply early to ensure enough time for member recruitment

Once your application has been reviewed (takes approximately two weeks) and approved, recruitment to find a good fit for your project will begin. Filling the AmeriCorps position is ultimately the responsibility of the sponsor site but AmeriCorps-PCEI staff are a great resource to help in this endeavor and will also post the position on the AmeriCorps-PCEI website and the National AmeriCorps website.

Once you have found the right person for the position, your agency will then have an individual that can help your agency increase its capacity.
