VOLUNTEER/ SERVICE LEARNING PROJECTS AT PCEI


Community Garden Projects

Contact, Kelly Riley: Community Garden Coordinator

  • Maintenance of Raspberry Trellis
  • Planting
  • Compost Bin Construction
  • Prepare Greenhouse for winter
  • Weed front and rear flowerbeds
  • Clean and organize tool shed
  • Mowing pruning

Watershed Program Projects

Contact: Program Coordinator, Amanda Cronin

  • Enter library materials into database
  • Update the volunteer database
  • Plant native trees and shrubs for restoration
  • Install erosion control fabric for restoration
  • Assist with maintenance of restoration sites i.e. weeding, watering, tree tube fixing

PCEI General Projects

Contact: Office Manager, Polly Fulford

  • Write an article for our quarterly environmental newsletter
  • Assist with website maintenance and design
  • PCEI VanPool Report - history of our vanpool costs and fees compared to rising costs of gas, insurance, maintenance and administration since inception in 1996, also including a look at what fees should be to amortize cost of a new van for the alternative transportation program and cost per mile of using vans.
  • Survey of Accounting Software to see if there's some other program that would work for us.
  • Literature search and benefits analysis relating to our so-called fundraisers i.e. Renaissance Fair, Appalousa Festival etc.
  • Analysis of costs/benefits related to hiring a Special Events Coordinator.
  • Office space analysis - both a more efficient use of our existing space and a search for new space complete with fundraising techniques for acquiring our own property.
  • Assist with PCEI photo project
  • Compile scrapbook of news articles relating to PCEI

Village Bicycle Project

Contact: Coordinator, Dave Peckham

  • Help prepare bicycles for shipment to Africa weekend of Sept 20th.

Ongoing Volunteer Needs:



Librarian

 Job Description: Develop a database to catalog the PCEI library.  The goal is a searchable database that can be accessed within the office and possibly on the web.
Qualifications: Librarian skills, database knowledge.

Researcher/Writer

 Job Description: Write and research articles for newsletter, newspapers, brochures, handouts, guides. Interview people for stories.
Qualifications: Writing skills' knowledge of MS word or PageMaker is helpful.

EcoArt Instructor

 Job Description: Instruct area children about the environment through art projects.
Qualifications: Interest in youth education (K-12); knowledge of environmental issues is important. Knowledge of agriculture or art is helpful.

Graphic Designer

 Job Description: Create or re-design brochures and action alerts for various PCEI programs. Create Posters or flyers for special events and conferences. Design program or project logo(s)
Qualifications: Working knowledge of PageMaker. Background in graphic design would help.

Office Volunteer

 Job Description: PCEI needs constant and continuous assistance in the office. The duties range from general office work to aiding in specific program areas.

A few office opportunities include; computer operator, assisting in bulk mailings, assisting with special events, filing, recycling and distributing newsletters.
