    Iris misouriensis
    Common name:
    wild iris or western blue flag

    This species is prevelant on the preserve. You will find it in the wetter areas of the preserve, but some can be seen in the uplant community as well.

    Common name:
    Palouse thistle

    This is a special plant endemic to the Palouse region. You will find this plant in the drier areas of the Preserve. It can be differentiated from Canada thistle by the soft hairs (pubescence) on the underside of the leaf. The Palouse thistle also has a very different flowerhead, it blooms a creamy white, where Canada thistle blooms bright pink.

    Common Name:
    purple trillium or roundleaf trillium

    This is a really beautiful plant that grows in the wet meadow. It can be seen with a keen eye amongst the Fendler's waterleaf along the trail in the riparian zone.
