Danny has been working in Tanzania since 2005, at Tumaini Vocational
Training Center to train orphans in bike mechanics. His project is a
partnership btw. Global Alliance for Africa and Working Bikes
Cooperative.

Bikes Not Bombs started this whole movement of bike development
projects during the Contra war in Nicaragua during the mid 80s. They
are currently working on a training center program in South Africa.

ITDP has developed a bicycle specifically for Africa, (but it’s a big
and diverse place!) called the California Bike. They are targeting
more middle-class consumers, with the hopes that a higher quality bike
will dissuade them from cars. They are working in Ghana, Senegal,
South Africa and I think Kenya.

As far as I know, they havent done anything yet, but maybe soon! They
are looking to start a program in Mozambique.
