PCEI is working with the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) on the mitigation and propagation of Spalding's catchfly, Silene spaldingii, a threatened plant. During the Idaho Highway 95 expansion, a small population of Spalding's catchfly was destroyed. To mitigate for the loss, ITD hired PCEI to collect and propagate the plant in the PCEI Learning Nursery. The propagated plants will then be used for restoration and recovery of the species. The existing roadside Spalding's catchfly site will be rehabilitated through weed control and native bunchgrass restoration to promote the re-establishment of the Spalding's catchfly.
