The South Fork of the Palouse River is part of the Palouse River Subbasin
and is located in northern Idaho and eastern Washington in what is
known as the Palouse Bioregion. The Idaho Department of Environmental
Quality is working with local stakeholders to develop the South
Fork Palouse River Total Maximum Daily Load in order to assess the
water quality in the watershed. The Washington Department of Ecology is
also working on their own South
Fork Palouse River Total Maximum Daily Load because the South Fork
Palouse River flows across the state line. PCEI restoration projects
were designed as a result of the TMDL assessment to help reduce
pollutants loads in the watershed. PCEI is working with private
landowners and the City of Moscow to re-slope and stabilize eroding
banks, install riparian fencing, install hardened stream crossings and
create wetlands to help filter overland flows.
