Volunteer Transplanting Week
It's almost transplanting time again! Volunteers will work with PCEI to transplant 1,700 native plant seedlings into pots for the John Crock Learning Nursery, from Monday, September 7 (Labor Day) to Friday, September 11, 10:00am to 2:00pm. Plants potted this fall will be available in 2027 for PCEI's restoration projects as well as for public sale.
Volunteers of ages and abilities are welcome, though we ask that children are accompanied by an adult. For group volunteering, please contact us at: info@pcei.org.
Please come dressed for the weather (warm or cold, rain or shine) and for dirty work. PCEI can provide gloves and tools.
It’s helpful is volunteers can sign up on our Give Pulse site, but drop ins are also welcome. We look forward to getting our hands dirty with you!

Get Rooted: Help Install BDAs!
Join volunteers in building Beaver Dam Analogues (BDAs) along the East Fork Potlatch River! PCEI is collaborating with the Clearwater Soil & Water Conservation District to install 30+ structures that will help improve stream and riparian habitat and water quality.
Volunteers will primarily be helping cut brush with loppers and use it to weave between posts, simulating the work of beavers and natural debris build-up in streams. They may also help with post-pounding. It'll be a great opportunity to learn about stream habitat, beavers, and hydrology while working alongside fellow beaver and stream enthusiasts!
What to expect: Approximately 5 miles from Bovill, the project site has areas of tall grass, dense brush and uneven terrain. Volunteers will be working in and around the stream, carrying brush and posts, and working around loud equipment. The weather will likely be hot and sunny, and no food or toilet facilities are present onsite. Cell service is also spotty onsite, but can be found within 3-5 miles.
Please come prepared for worksite conditions! We recommend:
Long sleeves and pants for sun and brush protection
Close-toed shoes (required), boots or waders
Hat & sunscreen
Sun glasses
Water
Lunch/snacks
To register, visit our Give Pulse page, or email Amanda at aminor@pcei.org with any questions.

Capitol Tree Ornament Decorating
This year, the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests have been selected to provide the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree (“The People’s Tree”) for the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol. This tree, the first Capitol Christmas Tree from the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests, will be the focal point of a year’s worth of community events and festivities celebrating the people and communities that live here (and have lived here) as well as the land the tree itself has called home.
Over 10,000 handmade ornaments are being made by a variety of local groups and organizations. Join us to create a piece of art to adorn the beautiful tree in the U.S. Capitol! Angie from the Forest Service, Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests, will be here during Pubbin’ on the Patio on Friday (5:30-8:30pm) with art supplies and answers to all your Capitol Christmas tree questions. You’re welcome to bring your own nature art (sticks, pinecones, etc.), and we’ll have tree cookies, markers, paints, and other art supplies available.
This is a great opportunity to share a little piece of yourself and our community with the world on the famous Capitol Christmas tree!
Pubbin' on the Patio
We're thrilled to have the amazing Jon & Rand Band back for another evening of great music! This Pubbin' on the Patio event is extra long—5:30-8:30pm—and features two food vendors (Mariana’s Tamales and Papa’s Kitchen), as well as drinks from Hunga Dunga.

Requested $5 minimum donation per session to directly support Little Roots Playgroup. There is no charge for PCEI members. Bring a friend and come ready to make some new ones!
Not sure what it means to be a member? PCEI members are our supporter base—those who donate to help sustain the organization throughout the year. A basic annual membership is $50, and this year we have a special $40 rate to celebrate PCEI’s 40th anniversary! Benefits of membership include: free or discounted entry into educational offerings, half-price Nature Center reservation fees, free entries into giveaways, free drinks at member-appreciation events, and more. Visit pcei.org/donate to learn more or to become a member.
