Central to “Connecting people, place, and community”, PCEI volunteers keep our Nature Center safe and enjoyable for all, and engage in learning and stewardship across our region’s ecosystems.

PCEI volunteers participate in a wide variety of activities, which may include:

• Trimming, mowing, watering, and weeding throughout the summer

• Transplanting nursery plants or trail maintenance in fall and spring

• Shoveling or snow-blowing in winter

• Supporting community, outreach, and education events throughout the year

Ways to Volunteer

Drop-In 

If you “drop-in” on occasion to volunteer at an event or help with nature center tasks, but are not a regularly scheduled volunteer, you’re considered a “Drop-In Volunteer”. PCEI offers a weekly “drop-in” event, as well as a variety of other volunteer opportunities throughout the year. You can find more information and register for events on Give Pulse.

Long-term 

Long-term volunteers complete the volunteer application process and receive training appropriate to their role and responsibilities. They immerse themselves at PCEI, volunteering on a regular schedule for periods of several weeks to over a year. Some long-term volunteers may choose to use these hours toward an informal or external internship, and we are happy to verify hours and complete any necessary paperwork.

Internships & Research

Internships and research projects offer ways to apply knowledge gained in the classroom; learning objectives are clearly defined and related to a student’s professional goals and academic coursework. Individuals and educators who are interested in developing an internship or research project in partnership with PCEI may initiate the process by completing the ‘Internships & Research Interest Form’ on our website.
